Who treats Kidney Stones in Visakhapatnam?

At MRKC, Visakhapatnam, nephrologist Dr. Goli Sri Charan Nivas does the medical evaluation of kidney stones — finding the cause, protecting kidney function and lowering the chance of new stones. Stones that need removal are referred to a urologist.

What is Kidney Stones?

Kidney stones form when minerals such as calcium, oxalate or uric acid crystallise in the urine. Small stones may pass on their own, while larger stones can block urine flow and cause severe pain, infection and kidney damage.

Without changes, about half of people who have one stone get another within 5–10 years. Hot weather, low water intake, high salt and animal protein, obesity, gout and some medical conditions raise the risk — common factors in coastal Andhra.

ℹ️
Nephrologist or urologist? A urologist removes stones (ureteroscopy, PCNL, lithotripsy). A nephrologist looks for why they form, checks kidney function and plans medicines and diet to lower recurrence. Many patients benefit from both.
